Davis Chemical employees travel throughout Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma to supply chemicals and work with rigs
A cookout at Davis Chemical Services, LLC celebrated their newest equipment and expansion within the company. CEO Jim Davis and his employees talked among themselves as they ate pork, baked beans and potato salad.
“We’ve got guys here who work 100 hours a week,” Nicholson said. “That takes a certain kind of person to do that and a certain family to put up with that.”
Nicholson also placed emphasis on the extensive training that takes place on new hires.
“Our real emphasis is on training and knowledge and giving the information they need to know,” Nicholson said.
With an expected growth rate of 85 employees by Christmas, the company is doing well for itself considering it opened its doors in January.
After being sold out to Key Energy Services in 2010, Davis had to start over again, this time with a little financial cushion.
“The way the government and banks are now, startup businesses are dead in the water,” Davis said. “I thank God that I had a little money to start this.”
Davis had a loyal following as he moved to his new location, 200 Martin Lake Rd, in Marshall. A number of employees who were with him at Key Energy Services followed him including his daughter Laura Wall.
Ms. Wall switched careers after working as a hairdresser for a number of years. She has now been with her father’s company for 10 years.
“I was happy with my job and enjoyed it and he was building the vacuum service at the time and came to me and said ‘I just really need someone that’s going to help me,’” Ms. Wall said.
Since then she has moved to the chemical side of the company. They supply chemicals for fracturing companies, pump downs, gas busters and much more.
Ms. Wall also spoke highly of her father’s desire to give back to the community and support Harrison County.
“Jim is a very strong supporter of Harrison County and Marshall in particular,” Ms. Wall said. “It’s very important if you are benefiting in the area that you do push back into your community.”
Davis’ belief of keeping it local has helped the business, according to Nicholson because it creates a relationship and staying power with businesses in the area.
Nicholson also said that at the rate the company is going with its ongoing hiring they could have nearly 140 employees next year.
“It’s going to get better,” Nicholson said. “I would expect that by this time next year we’ll have 140 people if we keep moving like we’re moving currently. I’m really looking forward to the next year.”
Interaction with employees is a top priority for Davis and Wayne Nicholson, who works under him. As the company continues to grow, they want to make sure that they are hiring quality workers.
